Proportional Counter Circuit:
Proportional counters measure the charge generates through every particle of radiation. For make full use of the counter's capabilities, it is must to measure the number of pulses and the charge in every pulse. Figure displays a classical circuit used to make such measurements.
Figure: Proportional Counter Circuit
The capacitor converts the charge pulse to a voltage pulse. A voltage is equal to the amount of charge divided through the capacitance of the capacitor, as provided in Equation 1.
V=Q/C (1)
where
V = voltage pulse (volts)
Q = charge (coulombs)
C = capacitance (farads)
