Types of Cement:
The several kinds of cements that are available in the market can be classified as follows.
Ordinary Portland cement (OPC)
This type of cement is also called normal setting cement since its setting is normal when mixed with water. It is common-purpose cement appropriate for general concrete construction work that needs no special consideration. It has medium rate of strength development and heat generation. It has less resistance to chemical attack.
Subsequent are the uses of ordinary portland cement:
(a) It is used in significant structures, where great strength is required such as heavy buildings and bridges, etc.
(b) It is used within structures subject to the action of water such as foundations, under water reservoirs, water tight floors, dock yards, etc.
(c) It is used for creating cement mortar, plain cement concrete, reinforced cement concrete, etc.
(d) It is used for painting and plastering.
