Scheduling and Sequencing:
Scheduling is the technique by which a given set of orders are processed on the available resources. Scheduling may be utilized to arrange the resources on the basis of requirement of the orders, also may be used in arranging the orders on the basis of requirements of the resources. On the basis of requirement, there may be different ways to schedule. Scheduling techniques are categorized on the basis of demand patterns.
Sequencing is one of the scheduling techniques that deal with the determination of best order for processing a given set of jobs by the available facilities (i.e. workstations) in order to attain certain objectives. The objectives may be the maximization of resources, minimization of flow times of the jobs, minimize the tardiness of the jobs, etc.
