Parts of Process Planning

Process planning includes two parts:

• Process design and
• Operations design or planning

Process Design

It is concerned with the overall sequence of operations to realize the product specifications. It defines the type of work stations that are to be utilized, the machines and equipment necessary, and the quantities of each required.

Operations Design or Planning

It is concerned with the makeup of the individual manufacturing operation. The details of that are discussed in the next section.
