Process layout, functional layout or job shops are designed to accommodate the variety of product designs. This layout is generally utilized for producing a variety of products in relatively small batches. Under this arrangement each of the department or section is responsible for carrying out a particular procedure, irrespective of type of product as in the case of product layout. In such layout, similar operations are performed in each department or section. The factories by using this layout have no standard products, and if any, they are few. Thus, machine in this type of layout are generally arranged on functional basis. This type is also called analytical layout.
