Manufacturing Resource Planning or MRP II

The initial versions of manufacturing recourse planning were giving just a materials and parts planning tool that calculation was based upon the MPS. This became evident that manufacturing recourse planning should be tied to another software packages to create a more integrated PPC system. The PPC software packages such evolved from manufacturing recourse planning became termed as Manufacturing resource planning, or MRP II. This is a closed loop system which coordinates and integrates all of the main functions of the business to produce quality products. Manufacturing recourse planning consists of virtually each function in the PPC system along with additional business functions such are related to manufacturing. Software vendors continue to add innovative features to their manufacturing recourse planning II packages to gain competitive advantage in the market. Several of the applications that have been added to current generations of manufacturing recourse planning II are in the area of quality control, customer field support, maintenance management, marketing support and SCM.
