Elastic behavior of solids:

Elasticity can be defined as the ability of a solid to return to its original shape even after being contracted or expanded. Elasticity is the property of a solid to return to its initial state following deformation. It can be said that the degree to which this property is exhibited is called as elasticity. Ability of the solid to return to its original shape after being subject to strain. Most of the solid materials display elasticity, up to a load point called as elastic limit; loads higher than this limit cause permanent deformation of material.
