Total Productive Maintenance, Physical Assets Management and Tero-Technology
Well, a single defect can cost about Rs. 100 in diagnosis and repair if it is detected early in production, whereas the same defect in the field may well cost Rs. 1000 to rectify otherwise. If it transpires that the failure is a design fault then the cost of the redesign, documentation and retest may well be in tens or even hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Therefore, an eye should be kept upon the design of the machine. This close vision is to be continued till the end of life of the machine. Then only one can enhance the availability and set high reliability for any machine so as to facilitate in maximising the production. Thus the maintenance from "Design to Discard" concept with a little difference is introduced through the Tero-technology, developed by United States, the Physical Assets Management (PAM) developed by Europeans and the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), a brain child of Japanese.
