The purpose of job evaluation is to generate a defensive ranking of jobs on which a rational & acceptable pay structure can be developed. The vital features of job evaluation might be summarised thus:
1) It attempts to assess jobs, not people.
2) The level of job evaluation is relative, not absolute.
3) The fundamental information on which job evaluations are made is got from job analysis
4) Job evaluations are performed by groups, not by individuals.
5) Some degree of subjectivity always exists in job evaluation.
6) Job evaluation does not fix pay scales, rather simply provides a basis for evaluating a rational wage structure.
