Crude touch sensation
Lamina V (and lamina IV) cells when activated only by large-diameter low-threshold afferents convey crude touch sensation. Such cells have small receptive fields and their projections are organized topographically so are able to localize stimuli precisely. However, convergence of inputs means they cannot discriminate well between different mechanoreceptor submodalities.
