Committee Assignments
In this particular method, trainees are asked to solve a real organisational problem. The trainees need to work together and offer solution to the difficulty. Assigning talented workers to important committees may give these workers a broadening experience and may help them to understand the personalities, issues and processes leading the organisation. It helps them to build up team spirit and work unitedly toward common objective. Managers, however, should very well understand that committee assignments might become dishonourable time wasting activities.
The above on-the-job technique is cost effective. Actually workers produce while they learn. As immediate feedback is available, they inspire trainees to learn and observe the correct way of doing things. Very few difficulties arise in the case of transfer of training because the workers learn in the real work environment where the skills that are learnt are in fact used. On-the-job methods can cause disruptions in manufacture schedules. Experienced employee cannot use the facilities that are utilized in training. Slow learners can damage machinery and equipment. At last, if the trainer does not hold teaching skills, there is very little advantage to the trainee.
