Organolithium reagents:
Alkyl halides can be transformed to organolithium reagents by using lithium metal in an alkane solvent as shown in figure. Organolithium reagents react likewise to Grignard reagents. For instance, reaction with aldehydes and ketones results in nucleophilic addition to provide secondary and tertiary alcohols correspondingly.
