Preparative methods 

For organometallic compounds the Preparative methods are very diverse but the following are normally useful.

  • Reduction of metal salt in the existence of the ligand:

  • Reaction of a transition metal salt along with a main-group organometallic compound. C5H5 is frequently delivered like the sodium salt Na+(C5H5)-:

In other examples a Grignard reagent or aluminum alkyl may frequently be used:

  • Metal vapor synthesis. Vaporizing the metal (example: through electron-beam heating) helps through giving the sublimation energy needed; metal atoms are then condensed in the existence of the ligand on the sides of the vessel, cooled with in liquid nitrogen.
