Absorption characteristics:

Chromophore in Greek means, "colour bearing". Therefore, the term chromophore is now not limited to colours only but is used in a general way for groups which are responsible for causing an absorption of electromagnetic radiation among about 175 to 800 nm.  A list of some easy chromophoric groups and their light absorption features is given in Table.
