Alkanes and Cycloalkanes
Alkanes are organic molecules along with the general formula CnH2n+2 that contain carbon and hydrogen atoms linked together through the C-C and C-H single bonds. They are frequently considered to as saturated hydrocarbons - saturated since all the bonds are single bonds, hydrocarbons since the only atoms exist are carbon and hydrogen. In shape all the carbon atoms in an alkane are sp3 hybridized and tetrahedral. The C-C and C-H bonds are strong σ bonds, and so alkanes are not reactive to most chemical reagents.
Alkanes are occasionally considered to as straight chain or acyclic alkanes to differentiate them from cycloalkanes / alicyclic compounds.
