Eddy Current Inspection
Eddy current testing is one of the methods of detecting discontinuities and flaws. The method is based on the principle that when the alternate current carrying conductor coil is brought near a metallic/conductive specimen, eddy currents are induced in the specimen due to electromagnetism.
These eddy currents produce their own magnetic field that opposes the field of the current carrying coil, thereby increasing the impedance (resistance). Coil impedance can be measured whose variation indicates the crack or flaw.
