Group appraisal
In this method, worker is appraised by a group of appraisers. This group consists of the instant supervisor of the worker, other supervisors who have close contact with the workers' work, manager or head of the department & consultants. The head of the department or manager can be the Chairman of the group and the instant supervisor can act as the Coordinator for the group activities. This group utilized any one of multiple techniques discussed earlier. The instant supervisor enlightens other members regarding the job characteristics, standards of performance, demands etc. The group appraises then the performance of the workers, compares the exact performance with standards, discover the deviations, discusses the reasons therefore, recommend ways for development of performance, make an action plan, studies the requirement for change in the job analysis and standards and propose changes, if necessary.
This technique eliminates 'personal bias' to a big extent, as performance is evaluated by multiple raters. But it is a very time consuming procedure.
