Investment Casting:

Investment casting procedure is also known as 'lost wax' process. In this procedure ceramic slurry is applied around a disposable pattern, usually made up of wax and it is permitted to harden to build a disposable casting mould. The term 'investment casting' derived through the procedure of investing (that is coating or surrounding) a wax pattern along a refractory. The term 'lost wax' comes through the fact that the wax pattern is burned off throughout the process. The mould is heated up at temperature above 100oC based on the type of cavity to eliminate wax from the mould. It forms the primary cavity (mold cavity) in the invested refractory. In this procedure a separate pattern is made up for each casting and gating system that is 100 castings needs 100 patterns .The patterns are cast by injection molding.
