Beneficial effects
The beneficial effects of Fungi such as bacteria are the decomposers and play a most important role in nature’s cycles. Some fungi are used in food production. Beneficial fungi are of great importance commercially. Yeasts are used in bread production and liquor. Yeasts have also proved extremely useful in our quest of knowledge of outer space. The Pink bread mold Neurospora has been used broadly to help us to understand the principles of heritage. The medically important antibiotic penicillin is obtained from the genus peniclillium. The Peniclillium is also used in cheese production certain fungi are edible.
These involve the delicious truffles and morels. Mushrooms are of huge importance. The products of yeast fermentation (CO2 and alcohol) are exploited in bread making and alcohol brewing. Both processes enhance the value of the substrate but contribute little to its nutritional value.
