Personal observation
The analyst observes the worker(s) performing the job. The tasks performed, the pace at which activities are performed, the working conditions, etc., are observed throughout a complete work cycle. At the time of observation, certain precautions should be taken which are following:
- The analyst ought to observe average workers during average conditions.
- The analyst should observe without directly attainment involved in the job.
- The analyst ought to make note of the specific job require and not the behaviours specific to specific workers.
- The analyst has to make sure that he achieved a proper sample for generalisation. This method permit for a deep understanding of job duties. It is suitable for manual, short period job activities. On the negative side, the technique fails to take note of the mental aspects of jobs.
