Critical Incidents
It is a qualitative approach to job analysis used to get specific, behaviourally focused descriptions of work or other extra activities. Here the job holders are asked to explain several incidents depend on their past experience. The incidents as gather are analysed and classified according to the job areas they explained. The job requirements will become visible once the analyst draws the line among effective and ineffective behaviours of employees on the job. For instance, if a shoe salesman comments on the size of a customer's feet and the customer leaves the store in a huff, the performance of the salesman may be judged as ineffective in terms of the result it generate. The critical incidents are recorded after the events have taken place already routine and non-routine both. The procedure of collecting a fairly good number of incidents is a lengthy one. As incidents of behaviour may be quite dissimilar, the procedure of classifying data into usable job descriptions can be hard. The analysts overseeing the work ought to have analytical ability and skills to translate the content of descriptions into significant statements.
