Method of Cross-section

Cross-sectional points are taken at regular interval in this method. The reduced level of all those points is established by levelling. The points are marked on the drawing sheets, their reduced levels (RL) are marked and contour lines interpolated. Given figure indicate a typical planning of this work. Spacing of cross-section based upon the nature of the ground, scale of the map & the contour interval needed. It varies in the range of 20 m to 100 m. if ground level varies abruptly Closer intervals are required. The cross- sectional line require not be always be at right angles to the main line. Ideally this method is suited for road and railway projects.
