Varnishes
In this, a synthetic or natural resin is utilized in place of pigments. The resin is cooked in combination along a drying oil such like tung oil which gets partly oxidised and partly polymerized at high temperatures. The resin is dissolved in the oil and a drier is sometimes added up at the time of thinning. Varnish characteristics might be changed or modified by changing ratios of resin and oil or by utilizing other resins.
The alkyd types of varnishes are rapid drying, especially under the application of heat, and contain good adherence to smooth surfaces.
