Organic Finishes

Organic finishes have in coating a surface with a continuous film of an organic film making material. This film might be applied for protecting the surface from corrosive influences, for increasing the appearance, or a combination of both; however it does not permit the holding of close dimensional tolerance and it has average resistance to abrasion only. Its resistance to elevated temperature is also poor. This family of organic coatings includes paints, varnishes, enamels, shellac, lacquer and rubber base coatings, with vehicles of synthetic resins, linseed, rubber and tung oils. The basic different among the various types of organic finishes lies in the type of vehicle in each of them.
