The kinematics of machines deals along with analysis & synthesis of mechanisms. Before proceeding to this, you are introduced to the kinematics.
Kinematics implies velocity, displacement and acceleration of a point of interest at a specific time or with passage of time. A point or a particle can be displaced from its primary position in any direction. The motion of a particle confined to shift in a plane can be described by x, y or r, θ or some other pair of independent coordinates. The motion of an element constrained to shift along a straight line may be defined by any one coordinate. The concerned coordinate will describe its position at any instant.
