In general, enlightened measures of performance are characterized by their focus on competitiveness, emphasis of common sense, and emphasis on long term improvement.
Competitive Focus:
World class organizations provide products and services that meet the expected quality measures, innovation, flexibility and cost established by the competitive environment. Meeting such standards resolute the competitive ability of an organization and the same standard should be utilized to assess its overall performance. For instance, flexibility can be measured by the average number of jobs mastered by the employees, set up time or the average time to produce a new product. Traditional measure does not measure competitiveness.
