Lime Mortar
This consists of lime as a binder and sand, surkhi, cinder as fine aggregates, commonly in the proportion 1 : 2 or 1 : 3. Lime is slaked and used as lime putty. Hydrated lime available in powder form could also be used. Lime mortar gains strength slowly. The major advantages of lime mortar are its good workability, high water retentivity and low shrinkage.
