How Force Is Determined:

Force can be measured by the consequence it has on an object with mass. It also can be measured by the quantity of distortion or deflection it generates in an elastic object like a spring. The "mass meter" explained earlier for determining mass can be altered to make a "force meter" if one-half of it is taken away and a calibrated scale is located alongside as shown in figure below. This scale should be calibrated in advance in a laboratory environment.
