Cutting Conditions:
INTRODUCTION
Objective of metal cutting is to transform the provided raw material (or partially processed workpiece) into the wished part with the particular dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish. To attain the desired characteristics (specified through the designer) on the machined workpiece, one need to select suitable machine tool, cutting tool (tool geometry and tool material), and cutting conditions (cutting or dry with coolant, cutting speed, feed and depth of cut). All of these parameters influence production cost the production rate, dimensional accuracy and surface integrity. In this unit, the influence of cutting conditions by including cutting tool, on the procedure performance will be discussed.
Objectives
After studying this unit, one must be able to
- recognize the important variables to be considered for a given machining operation,
- choose the values of various cutting parameters based upon the specifications of the workpiece, and
- understand the influence of different machining parameters on the procedure performance.
