Managerial System

This system is also submitted to as a Decision Making System or DMS or a control system. The decision making system is in reality a control system that allows one to take advantage and make decisions of the indetermination of the physical system to build it work in a way which optimizes some criteria as Productivity like maximization, Work in Process level like minimization, total tardiness like minimization such that it is near to zero.

The DMS can be further divided into two subsystems as:

Physical System State Based DMS or PSS-DMS

The part of DMS such computes the decisions starting merely from the condition of the physical system.

Environment State Based DMS or ES-DMS

The part of the DMS such computes the decisions starting from the condition of the environment of the physical system and probably from the condition of the physical system itself.

To acquire a clear picture we take up the following illustration for clarifying these terminologies.

Taken a physical system of a storage resource that is managed employing the following rule:

'Order a quantity Q while the inventory level to be less than q'.

In such case the DMS is restricted to PSS-DMS like the decision is made starting from the support of the physical systems such is the inventory level.

As another illustration we consider a same manufacturing system along with given as managerial rule:

'Order a quantity Q while difference or inventory level minus demand that is less than q'. Hence an ES-DMS is clearly depicted in such case as the decision is based upon the condition of the environment of the storage resource that is demand and the condition of the physical system that is inventory level.

Additionally if we change the management rule to be as:

'Order a quantity Q₁ while the inventory level becomes less than q₁ and order a quantity Q₂ while difference or inventory level minus demand such is less than q₂'.

Now the DMS is composed of a PSS-DMS such is the given management rule:

'Order a quantity Q₁ while the inventory level becomes less than q₁', and as an ES-DMS also that is the given management rule:

'Order a quantity Q₂ while difference or inventory level minus demand such is less than q₂'.
