Cutting Speed and Feed in Milling Operation
Cutting Speed
It is the distance travelled per minute by the cutting edge of the cutter. It is measured at the circumference of the cutter and is expressed in mts/min or feet per minute.
Cutting Speed = π DN/1000 m/min

Feed
It represents the table travel in any direction, measured in millimeters. It can be expressed in three ways.
(a) Feed per minute → mm/min
(b) Feed per tooth → The table travel in mm during the period when the cutter revolves through an angle corresponding to the distance between the cutting edges of two adjacent teeth.
(c) Feed per revolution → mm/rev.
