Selection Of Lubricants

In selecting a lubricant for a specific job, the service condition needs are to be related to the properties of the lubricant. The properties of appropriately selected lubricant must not change under service conditions. If the properties of selected lubricant change during service, operation is influence. All properties described in Section should be well understood and their pattern of variation with pressure and temperature ascertained before actual adoption in service. Many mathematical correlations are available that might be utilized to calculate temperature increase of lubricant. Such analytical exercise need to be performed in advance. Appropriate design solution for flow, change and cooling of oil should be incorporated for smooth operation of machinery.
