Flow Regimes
All fluid flow is categorized into one of two broad groups or regimes. Such two flow regimes are laminar flow and turbulent flow. The flow regime, laminar or turbulent, is significant in the design and operation of any fluid system. The quantity of fluid friction, that determines the quantity of energy needed to sustain the desired flow, based upon the mode of flow. This is also a significant consideration in certain applications which include heat transfer to the fluid.
