Synthesis of Cam Follower System:
In the previous unit, analytical & graphical method of analysis of the mechanism was described. This method may be computerised also. In this unit, you will study cam and follower mechanism. Cam is mechanical member that imparts wanted motion to another member called follower through direct contact. The cam might be a rotating or reciprocating member. Conversely follower might be rotating, reciprocating or oscillating member. Cam and follower mechanism associate to the category of higher pairs. Cams are broadly utilized in automatic machines, machine tools, internal combustion engines, printing control mechanisms etc. In this mechanism, cam is driving member & follower is a driven member. They are supported through a fixed link which is known as frame.
