Classification of Ion Exchangers:

Many different natural and synthetic products show ion exchange properties. These exchangers can be either cation or anion exchangers. Therefore, a simple broad classification can be as

i) Natural

ii) Synthetic

However, within these two categories the material can be

i)  Organic

ii) Inorganic

For the purposes of simple presentation, we will choose the first classification i.e., natural and synthetic.
