Unix Refresher
This session introduces UNIX commands which are simple and frequent used. This session makes the user conversant with the UNIX directory commands or their usage. This is also deals with creating directories and manipulating its elements. It also displays how to work with files. Several file manipulation commands and file printing commands are also dealt with. The session also describes the concept of standard input, redirecting and output the input and output to files. That also deals with combining easy UNIX commands to establish complex commands using the concept of pipes. Many powerful utilities of UNIX which perform filtering of data are also dealt with. This session also introduces a significant concept of UNIX known as process. The commands which help in working with several processes are discussed.
Various people can be using a UNIX system at the similar time. To enable the system to know who the user is and the resources which could be used, the users must recognized themselves. This procedure of identifying is called login in. Before the system can be accessed, the System Administrator has to be configuring the computer. Each user requires a unique identification known as the user name that is the name by that the user is identified through the system. To avoid others from using the name, the system protects the user's account through providing a password. The user is responsible for holding the password secure.
