In UNIX Operating system, everything attached to the computer is treated as a device. It does not important whether the device is a terminal, a harddisk, a CDROM drive, a printer or a modem. Everything which accepts and sends data to the OS is a device.

The Device management in LINUX environment involves removing and adding peripheral devices from systems, probably adding device drivers to support a device and displaying the system configuration information.
