Determines weight to complete balance:
In Example 18.1 determines what weight of the balancing mass will attain complete balance if the balancing mass contains its centre of gravity at a distance of 7.5 mm from the axis of rotation. Shall this be true for both of the positions of disturbing mass in Example 18.1.
Solution
Use (Eq. (18.5) of with M
= 25 kg, r = 5 mm, r1 = 7.5 mm
∴ 25 × 5 = M1 × 7.5
M1 = ((25 × 5)/ 7.5) × 1 = 6.67 kg
∴
(i) As the Eq. (5) is independent of distance with the shaft the location of disturbing mass shall not affect the magnitude of balancing mass. Therefore balancing mass is similar as at Equation (i) for M at a = 400 mm or M in the centre of the span.
