Current divider

The other frequently encountered in electric circuit is the current divider. Figure below illustrates that the current divider divides the source current I_s among the two resistors.

The parallel combination of two resistors is at times known as current divider, as the supply current is distributed among the two branches of the circuit. For the circuit, suppose that the voltage across the branch is V and the current expression in R1 resistor can be written as

Likewise, the current flowing via the R₂ can be acquired as

It can be observed that the expression for I₁ has R₂ on its top line, which for I₂ has R₁ on its top line.
