Determination of Heat Capacity:

The DTA curve is conveniently used to measure the heat capacity (specific heat). For this reasons first a DTA curve is recorded for an empty holder and then for the sample placed in container is recorded within identical condition. The absolute modification in temperature (?T_x) has been measured and put within the equation for calculations:

C_p = K T₂  - T₁/mH

while C_p is  the heat capacity at temperature T, T₁ and T₂ are diffenrential temperature produced while the instrument is first run without any sample at all and then along with the test sample in position, H is the heating rate (dT/dt) and K is calibration factor. It could be determined through calibration against standard substance of known enthalpy change.
