Seismic Dampers

For controlling seismic damage in buildings another approach is by installing seismic dampers in place of structural elements like diagonal braces. While seismic energy is transmitted through them, dampers absorb part of it, and therefore damp the motion of the building. Given figure shows the following types of seismic isolation bearings:

(1) High density rubber bearings       

(2) Laminated rubber bearings and

(3) Friction pendulum bearings.
