Compatibility:
Since of its radioactive, chemically-reducing, and diffusive properties, tritium gas interacts along with almost all materials. Tritium gas permeates and degrades several meaningful polymeric materials (for instance, organics like as plastics, pumps oils, and O-rings). That action causes a loss of mechanical properties within months or years.
Tritium gas diffuses by glass, especially at elevated temperatures. Beta rays activate the reduction of Si-O-Si bonds to Si-OT and Si-T bonds, and mechanical properties might be lost over a period of years.
A few metals, like as uranium, are directly hydrided through tritium gas. These metals form a chemical compound and their mechanical properties are altered inside minutes or hours. Therefore, a few metals, like as stainless steels, are permeated through tritium, but do not lose their mechanical properties unless the tritium pressure is hundreds of atmospheres for various years.
