Example
A liquid-to-liquid counter flow heat exchanger is employed as part of an auxiliary system at a nuclear facility. The heat exchanger is employed to heat a cold fluid from 120oF to 310oF. Supposing that the hot fluid enters at 500oF and leaves at 400oF, compute the LMTD for the exchanger.
Solution:
ΔT2 = 400oF - 120oF = 280oF
ΔT1 = 500oF - 310oF = 190oF
ΔTlm = 232oF
