Acids:

These are compounds of hydrogen and one or more other components (with the exception of carbon) which dissociate or break down to generates hydrogen ions (H⁺) while dissolved within water or certain other solvents.

Acids are corrosive within any form, and in high concentrations destroy body tissue and cause severe burns on contact along with the skin.  The eyes are extremely susceptible, and permanent loss or damage of sight might result from contact along with acids. The inhalation of excessive concentrations of vapor or mist is very irritating to the respiratory system and to mucous membranes in particular. The Accidental swallowing of concentrated acids might give output in severe irritation of and damage to, a throat and stomach that, in some cases, might prove fatal.  A few of these materials are specifically poisonous as well as irritating.  Within lower concentrations, frequent skin contact might result in inflammation.

The Concentrated aqueous solutions of acids are not within themselves flammable.  A potential hazard is the danger of their combination along with other chemicals or combustible materials that might result in fire or explosion.  Acids also react along with several metals resulting in the liberation of hydrogen, the highly flammable gas that upon ignition within air might cause an explosion.  A few of the acids are strong oxidizing agents and could react destructively and violently while within contact along with organic or another oxidizable materials.

Personnel exposure needed immediate action commonly includes direct contact of the acid along with the eyes or body of the individual and inhalation of acid vapors or decomposition products or ingestion of acid.  An initial treatment in all cases of local contact is instant removal of the acid along with a huge amount of water. That treatment must be prolonged until all traces of acid have been erased, commonly a minimum washing time of 15 minutes.
