Handling Background Absorption in GFAAS Assignment Help

Assignment Help: >> Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry - Handling Background Absorption in GFAAS

Handling Background Absorption in GFAAS:

High background absorption is a problem area within furnaces. This might be solved through diluting the sample or selecting other resonance wavelength line. A use of matrix modifier is a generally acceptable method used to decrease background effects. In this technique a reagent is added to the sample which may modify the matrix behaviour and thereby tackle the problem of background. Sometimes the added matrix might modify the analyte also. Following are the purpose for adding matrix modifier.

  • It stabilises the analyte during the ashing stage.
  • It converts the interfering matrix within a volatile compound which may be removed during ashing.
  • It helps to acquire isothermal conditions in the graphite tube through delaying the analyte atomisation.
