Brief Treatment of Synthetic Curves:
Synthetic Curves
Additionally to simple analytic entities and curve fitting techniques, some more general methods for representing curves are needed to meet geometric design requirements of several mechanical parts and other engineering problems. Several researches has been done throughout the past couple of decades on developing better methods for representing general curves & shapes and simple ways to manipulate them through computer. Modelling of aircraft bodies, horse saddles, shoe toes, and some automobile shapes etc. are rather hard to represent by analytical curves and therefore some other special kind of curves are needed. A good representation of engineering objects by curves ought to have the following properties :
- Simple to control the continuity of the curves to be designed.
- Need less storage to represent the curve in a computer.
- Less computation time & no computational problems.
- Easy to input by user.
Curves that are built up by many curve segments are called as synthetic curves.
