Methods of Avoiding Interference:
For ignoring interference various methods are used. Some of them are given:
Undercutting of Teeth
To ignore interference, a portion of the radial part of the tooth may be cut out. This undercutting shall provide clearance among the gear teeth having the pinion teeth. But the undercutting makes teeth weaker at the root. Thus, such a method may be utilized only for those gears that run at very low speed. Figure illustrates the portion to be cut for undercutting.
Undercutting of Teeth
To decrease space needs below pitch circle of pinion and above that base circle, the stub teeth may be utilized for mating gear. In stub teeth the addendum of gear is given as '0.6 m' instead of standard addendum of '1 m' as illustrated in Figure 9 (c).
