Support for the liquid phase:
The features the optimum support for the liquid phase are as follows:
i) A large exact surface area (1 - 20 sq m/ g).
ii) A pore structure also with uniform pore diameter in the range of 10µ or less.
iii) Inertness in which means a minimum of chemical and adsorptive interaction with the solutes.
iv) Regularly shaped particles, uniform within size for efficient packing.
v) Mechanical strength-it should not crush on handling.
