Basic needs of a liquid:
The basic needs of a liquid phase are as under
i) It should exhibit different solubility for the elements present in the mixture.
ii) It should have low vapour pressure (0.01-0.1mm) at operating temperatures for a reasonable column life.
iii) It should be thermally stable.
iv) It should be chemically inert towards solutes of interest at the column temperature.
