Preventive Function

This is another important function of plant engineering department. The Maintenance or PE Department will prepare a long term and short term schedules to check each and every machine in regular intervals throughout the year. The PE crews will carry out the inspections, overhauls, lubrication like activities along with checking of the operating parameters. If required, the worn out parts (if any) will be replaced to prevent further deterioration so as not to lead to major breakdown or failures. The basic objective of this function is to forestall the occurrence of the failure.

There are several policies in practice to perform this function. Planned Maintenance, Shut down Maintenance, Productive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Maintenance Prevention etc..
